In November 2024, Shivani, Muskan, and Raveena graduated from the six-month training program at Barli Development Institute for Rural Women, a 20-year Mona partner. All three felt ready and excited to bring change to their community. Returning to their rural village, where education was scarce, the three young women took the initiative to visit the primary health care center, offering their assistance.
When the in-charge at the center inquired about their training at Barli, they shared the innovative literacy curriculum they had mastered, which teaches reading and writing in a unique and effective way. Impressed by their knowledge and passion, the in-charge approached the principal of the local government school and suggested they be allowed to teach. The school adjusted its schedule, opening earlier at 9:00 a.m. to accommodate their classes. Previously, the school had started at 10:30 a.m., as teachers from distant towns arrived late. With the dedication of Shivani, Muskan, and Raveena, children in the village began receiving consistent, quality education for the first time, thanks to their selfless efforts.
Shivani’s Mother expresses: "I never had an education, and with our poor financial condition, we couldn’t send Shivani to a good school. She studied in the local government school until the ninth standard, but the irregularity of teachers and the remoteness of our village deprived her of quality education. By attending the Barli Institute, Shivani has been given a second chance at life. I didn’t want her to live the life I lived, and now, seeing her help the children in our village, I feel proud and hopeful for her future."
Shivani, Muskan, and Raveena embody the potential of young women to drive meaningful change when given the opportunity.
